GOR 2013: Best Practice Award for GIM

Patricia Blau and Dr. Gerhard Keim of GIM together with Dominic Fried-Booth, of client Barnes & Noble were, presented with Best Practice Award at GOR 2013 on March 5, 2013 in Mannheim. The GOR (General Online Research) Conference is the most important conference for online research in Germany.

Their award-winning thesis, “Read between the lines – understanding the potential of e-reading in Germany” presents methodology for and study results from the new and dynamic e-reading market. It examines the meaning and function of e-reading as a networking tool between the digital and real worlds, while taking into consideration country-specific consumer behaviour.

GIM was approached by Nook media, a subsidiary of Barnes & Noble, the largest American bookseller and international book and e-reading specialist, to investigate the topic. GIM responded by initiating an iterative 360° research approach, which provided the ideal combination of online and offline methods.

The research design and the quality of the analysis impressed the GOR jury and industry professionals, as did the three-party presentation by Patricia Blau (Research Director, GIM), Dr. Gerhard Keim (Division Director Consumer Goods & Services, GIM) and Dominic Fried-Booth (Barnes & Noble).

Stephan Teuber, GIM CEO, said: “We are very excited about winning the GOR 2013 Best Practice Award. It underlines the importance of our research philosophy, to always choose our methodology and research approaches in context, and of using the right combination of methods for each research topic.”
